FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP (Somerset) — Authorities are investigating several shootings on Tuesday that they believe targeted three men, all of whom refused to cooperate with police.

Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said two of the victims were injured and treated in area hospitals. Authorities, however, have not determined the motives behind the gunshots, all reported in the Somerset section of town.

The victims, who were not named by authorities, remained in stable condition today, Soriano said in a news release.

The first shots were reported around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday near Hempstead Drive, Soriano said. Police officers arrived to find a vehicle with a bullet hole in the driver’s side door that had crashed into a parked vehicle. The vehicle’s driver, a 29-year-old New Brunswick man, said someone shot at him but declined to say anything more to police.

At 8:05 p.m., gun shots were fired near Mark Street and injured a 26-year-old Martin Street man, according to authorities. The man suffered two wounds to his lower extremities that were considered non-life threatening, Soriano said.

The third shooting occurred about an hour later on Lewis Street, Soriano said. A 35-year-old Hudson Court man suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left shoulder, but he refused to describe to police what happened.

Anyone with information should contact the Franklin Township Police Department at (732) 873-5533, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Squad at (908) 231-7100 or the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at 1 (888) 577-TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential.
