Hackensack Police Chief Ken Zisa HACKENSACK -- The city's suspended police chief will collect more than $53,000 in unused sick time.
Police Chief Ken Zisa was suspended without pay last month after he was charged with official misconduct for allegedly intervening in a 2004 assault case.
The chief was initially suspended after he was charged with insurance fraud in April.
City Manager Stephen Lo Iacono said there's nothing the city can do to prevent Zisa from cashing in unused sick time because it's in his contract.
Lo Iacono denied Zisa's request to be paid for 115 compensatory hours because there's no provision for that in his contract.
Zisa is paid $191,606 a year.
