PLAINFIELD -- The former manager of a recycling facility here has been sentenced to five months in federal prison and five months home confinement for taking bribes from a hauling contractor.
Michael Mongelli, 52, of New Hyde Park, N.Y., pleaded guilty in February to violating the federal travel act to promote a commercial bribery scheme.
Mongelli was operations manager of a transfer and recycling station.
Prosecutors said he accepted cash payments of more than $30,000 from a person hired to transport materials from the transfer station to an incineration facility in Pennsylvania.
At sentencing Monday in federal court in Newark, Mongelli also was ordered to pay a $25,000 fine.
