PERTH AMBOY — Perth Amboy police are searching for a man who threatened a city resident at gunpoint during a dispute inside an apartment house, but later fled, leaving behind an imitation handgun.
Officers responding to reports of an argument in a house at 362 Lawrie St. at 8:45 a.m. discovered the door to a second-floor apartment had been kicked in, and a man was holding a victim at gunpoint, Capt. David O'Donnell said.
He said the gunman turned the weapon on the officers and police backed off, set up a perimeter around the house and evacuated all tenants from the building.
Police then searched the house and discovered the gunman had escaped out a rear or side door of the house moments after he was initially confronted, the captain said.
He said officers recovered an imitation handgun.
Authorities ask that anybody with information about the incident call Detective Marcos Valera at (732) 324-3876.
