WOODLAND PARK — Federal prosecutors say a New Jersey man duped donors and charities with promises of golf at Augusta or a walk-on role on "Desperate Housewives."
FBI and IRS agents arrested Gregory Ciccone in Woodland Park on mail and wire fraud charges today. He's accused of defrauding people of at least $650,000.
Authorities say the 33-year-old bilked charities who contracted with his GAC Consulting company and donors who bid on high-value items.
Prosecutors say Ciccone used stall tactics and excuses to avoid providing the items, including telling a winning bidder the 2009 Tour de France bike race had been postponed.
U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman alleges Ciccone funded a gambling habit with money that was intended for school children and the gravely ill.
A message seeking comment from his public defender was not immediately returned.
