RIDGEFIELD — A northern New Jersey mayor facing extortion and bribery charges in the state's largest corruption probe remains on the witness stand.
Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez and Guttenberg tax preparer Vincent Tabbachino both face charges related to an alleged cash-for-influence scheme in Ridgefield.
The two were among 44 people arrested in July 2009 in the massive government sting.
Earlier today, attorneys on both sides continued sparring over numerous text messages that weren't saved by the FBI. The texts were between agents and the government's cooperating witness.
Attorneys for the defendants say some texts might have helped prove their clients' innocence.
U.S. District Judge Jose Linares has yet to rule on the issue.
