ATLANTIC CITY — Atlantic City police say a man fatally shot himself on the beach early this morning, just minutes after wounding another man outside a local club.
It was not immediately clear what sparked the incident, which occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the area of Texas Avenue.
Authorities told The Press of Atlantic City that 29-year-old Shamir Harper of Mays Landing was shot twice by 24-year-old Naheem Henderson of Pleasantville. A city police officer who was on patrol in the area tried to detain Henderson, but he fled to the beach and committed suicide.
Further details, including the type of gun Henderson used, were not immediately disclosed.
Harper was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his wounds, which were not considered life threatening.
