HACKENSACK — Two Hackensack police officers have been charged with falsifying records after an off-duty probationary officer allegedly crashed his car on his way home from a bar, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
The crash was reported as a hit and run and no sobriety tests were administered, authorities said. There were indications that the driver, off-duty probationary officer Jakub Szostak, 24, had been drinking, according to the prosecutor's office.
Eric Mark, 30, who was on duty, had met up with Szostak before he left the bar and pulled up to him minutes after the crash, according to the prosecutor's office.
Szostak is also accused of providing false information to his insurance company.
Szostak and Mark are each charged with falsifying records, and Szostak is charged with insurance fraud.
They are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6 at 9 a.m.
