County Prosecutor Ted Housel says 16-year-old Jacob Broschard of Egg Harbor Township was riding with two other teens when he was hit around 2 a.m.
Housel declined to disclose further details, citing the ongoing investigation. And it wasn't known if the other teens were injured.
Housel said the alleged driver, 31-year-old Egg Harbor resident William M. Simkins, fled the scene after the accident. But he was arrested two hours later.
Simkins, who was later released, faces several motor vehicle charges including reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. And Housel said more serious charges could be filed once the investigation is complete.
A telephone number for Simkins could not be located Monday night.
