FRANKLIN BOROUGH (Sussex County) — A three-day manhunt intensified today for a man suspected of trying to rob a bank in Sussex County, as authorities launched a media blitz in an attempt to develop new leads in the case.
First Assistant Sussex County Prosecutor Gregory Mueller said he was contacting media outlets throughout northern New Jersey to provide them with new photographs and information about the suspect in hopes of determining his whereabouts.
"We’re going to flood the news with it, maybe we’ll get some new information," he said.
The suspect, described as a white man in his mid-20s with red hair and blue eyes, unsuccessfully tried to rob the Franklin Borough branch of the Chase bank at 3 p.m. Monday.
No weapon was displayed during the incident, but the suspect handed a note to a teller saying he had a gun. The suspect fled without getting any money, Mueller said.
The freckle-faced man was wearing a black cap and black long-sleeve black shirt, and carrying a backpack at the time of the attempted heist and fled the scene in a black car. He has a thin build and is about 5 feet, 8 inches tall.
No one was injured in the incident.
