KENILWORTH — A second person has been charged in connection with a crash on the Garden State Parkway in Kenilworth that killed a teenager last month, authorities said.
Jason Montanez, 20, of East Orange, was arrested at home Wednesday and faces charges related to fleeing the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and driving with a suspended license, according to officials.
State Police said they tracked down Montanez after his black BMW left the scene of the May 8 accident. He is now being held at Union County Jail on $20,000 bail.
Priscilla Natal, 19, was arrested immediately after the crash on charges including vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.
She had been heading home from a club with four friends just before 2 a.m. when the accident occurred, police said. Natal was speeding and attempting to pass the black BMW in the right northbound lane when it veered into her lane and the cars collided, said Detective Brian Polite, a State Police spokesman.
Natal’s vehicle went off the road and hit a tree, throwing three passengers out of the car.
The impact killed Hernan Sanchez Jr., 18, and injured another passenger who recovered.
