DOVER — A Dover police officer sustained minor injuries on Friday when an allegedly drunk driver from Wharton crashed into the patrol car, police said.
Officer Jonathan Delaney was providing traffic direction and control while a New Jersey Central Power and Light crew worked to trim a tree on Route 46 near Princeton Avenue. The patrol car was on the shoulder behind several boom trucks and had its emergency lights activated, according to Capt. Peter Ugalde.
Alfonso Burgos, 62, was travelling west on Route 46 when he crashed into the police vehicle, Ugalde said.
Delaney was treated and released at Dover St. Clare's Hospital for minor injuries.
Burgos was charged with driving while intoxicated, vehicular assault, speeding, reckless driving and careless driving.
