ESSEX COUNTY — A cash reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information that leads to an arrest in connection with the hit-and-run fatality of a Maplewood resident in Newark on Feb. 27, Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced today.
Douglas Hodgson, 47, was struck by a white 1998 Acura CL on Routes 1 & 9 South near the Pulaski Skyway after he stopped to change a tire on his Lexus about 11:45 p.m. The driver of the Acura did not stop. Hodgson was pronounced dead at the scene a few minutes later.
The Acura should be showing damage to the passenger front fender and mirror and could be missing a front passenger parking light, Fontoura said.
Anyone with information, about the hit and run or auto repair facilities that might have made repairs to the Acura, is asked to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at (877) 847-7432 or (973) 621-4594. All calls to law enforcement will be kept confidential.
