HILLSIDE — A 65-year-old Staten Island man was hit with a gun during an attempted carjacking Tuesday night in Hillside, authorities said.
The victim parked on Schley Street around 10 p.m. and was walking away from his car when two men approached and demanded his keys, said Hillside Police Lt. Vincent Ricciardi, a spokesman. When the victim refused, one of the men pointed a black handgun at him, prompting a cry for help, the spokesman said.
The robber responded by smashing the victim on his head with the gun, cutting his skin open, and the two ran off toward the Newark border, Ricciardi said.
This was Hillside’s second carjacking in a week.
