BRIDGEWATER — A contractor took $4,600, but failed to perform any of the work on two Bridgewater dwellings, authorities said today.
Dave Kober, 45, of Stephen Avenue in Perth Amboy has been charged with third-degree theft by deception and fourth-degree being an unlicensed contractor for the incidents that occurred last summer, said Acting Somerset County Prosecutor A. Peter DeMarco Jr.
Kober is expected to turn himself in on Friday said Capt. Jack Bennett, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.
Kober owns and operates Woodbridge-based M&N Handyman. He entered into a contract for the victim’s home and a dwelling belonging to the victim’s father on July 12, DeMarco said. The victim gave $4,600 as a down payment. Kober cashed the check on July 13 . To date, he has not done the work and has not refunded the money, DeMarco said.
The prosecutor’s Special Investigations Unit contacted the state Division of Consumer Affairs, and learned that neither Kober nor his company was licensed as a home improvement contractor.
