MORRIS COUNTY — An aggravated assault charge could be dismissed against a New Jersey doctor accused of beating her mentally disabled daughter with a ruler.
Dr. Adina Alexescu has been admitted into Morris County's pre-trial intervention program for first time offenders.
The 55-year-old internist, who practices in Roselle Park, must complete one year of probation and 12 hours of community service.
Alexescu did not admit any wrongdoing.
The Daily Record reports her lawyer said the physician became overwhelmed with her daughter's behavior and lashed out.
The 18-year-old daughter, who authorities said has the intellectual capacity of a third- or fourth-grader, was attending a special school in Chatham when welts were noticed on her back, sides and thighs.
