MIDDLESEX COUNTY — A 30-year-old Newark man faces charges of robbing three Edison service stations and a Woodbridge convenience store, and slashing two workers in two of those crimes.
Edgardo Melendez is being held at the Middlesex County jail in North Brunswick on more than $200,000 bail, police said.
Investigators arrested Melendez on Friday after receiving information leading them to a Piscataway business, where they found the suspect, police said.
Edison police charged Melendez with committing three robberies in four days: on Jan. 3 at the Shell service station, 890 Route 1; on Jan. 4 at the Exxon service station at 470 Route 1; and Jan. 6 at the Sunoco service station, 737 Route 1.
A worker was stabbed in the arm in the last hold-up.
Woodbridge police allege Melendez slashed a 52-year-old worker who fought back during a robbery of the Stop N Go store on West Kelly Street in the Menlo Park Terrace section of that township.
