NORTH BRUNSWICK — A man attacked a woman leaving a North Brunswick farmer's market early today and stole a money bag containing about $30,000 in cash, police said.
The woman, who is the financial officer for the Garden State Farmers Market on Route 1 near Aaron Road, told police she had just picked up this week's cash proceeds and was walking to her car in the parking lot about 8:30 a.m. when a man approached her, Deputy Chief Joseph Battaglia said.
The man first asked when the market was open. Then, he struck the woman in the head with his hand and grabbed the money bag.
The robber, described as a Hispanic man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, who wore a black jacket and black pants, fled in a red van that was larger than a mini-van, police said.
Police said the 46-year-old woman did not require medical assistance.
