PATERSON — Police say a city man shot his ex-girlfriend's new beau before turning the gun on himself, leaving both men critically wounded.
Lt. Ron Humphrey, a Paterson police spokesman, told NorthJersey.com that 28-year-old Jose Martinez went to his former girlfriend's home around 8:15 p.m. Friday and confronted 34-year-old Michael Paredez.
The pair then argued before Martinez took out a handgun and fired two shots at Paredez. Humphrey said one bullet hit Paredez in the head while the other went through his hand and into his torso.
Martinez then immediately shot himself in the head.
Humphrey said both men were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, where they were listed in critical condition.
No further details were disclosed Saturday morning.
