NEWARK &mdash A double shooting in Newark's West Ward left one man in critical condition tonight, police said.
Police responded to a report of shots fired on South 11th Street near Central Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. and found one man with a gunshot wound to the stomach, said Detective Hubert Henderson, a city police spokesman. The man was taken to University Hospital with what Henderson described as non-life threatening injuries.
Moments later, a second man walked into University Hospital with several gunshot wounds, and police later determined he had been shot at the same location, said Henderson. Henderson said he traveled to the hospital under his own power.
The second victim was listed in critical condition as of 10 p.m., police said.
Authorities did not immediately identify a motive or a suspect in the shooting, and Henderson said police were still in the early stages of their investigation.
