TOMS RIVER — A woman who received probation after setting several arson fires in her southern New Jersey neighborhood two years ago will now head to prison.
Elizabeth Peters of Little Egg Harbor received a three-year term Friday because recent random testing showed she had violated her probation — for the second time — by consuming alcohol.
Peters' attorney has said his 45-year-old client's alcoholism spurred her to set the four fires in the Ocean County community in early 2008. No one was hurt, but one home was destroyed and three others were severely damaged.
When she was sentenced in February 2009, Peters was ordered to serve five years probation. She violated that condition several months later, but was allowed to remain on probation after she entered an inpatient treatment program.
