RIDGEFIELD — A judge has blocked an attempt by Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez to be tried separately from a defendant indicted with him on corruption charges.
Suarez is scheduled to go on trial in federal court in October along with Guttenberg tax preparer Vincent Tabbachino, whom prosecutors allege acted as the go-between between Suarez and a government informant.
The men were arrested along with 42 others in July 2009 in New Jersey's largest corruption case. Both have pleaded not guilty.
Tabbachino is charged with money laundering, attempted extortion and offering a bribe.
Suarez is charged with two extortion-related counts and one of accepting a bribe.
